1. Invoice processing:
Appendix 4 of Circular 39/2014/TT-BTC stipulates the following regarding invoices for returned goods:
– If an organization or individual purchases goods, the seller has issued an invoice, and the buyer has received the goods, but the buyer subsequently discovers that the goods do not meet specifications or quality standards and must return all or part of the goods, when returning the goods to the seller, the business must issue an invoice clearly stating that the goods are being returned to the seller due to incorrect specifications or quality, and the VAT amount (if any).
– In cases where the buyer does not have an invoice, when returning goods, the buyer and seller must draw up a record clearly stating the type of goods, quantity, and value of the returned goods at the price excluding VAT, the VAT amount according to the sales invoice (invoice number, date, and month), the reason for the return, and the seller must retrieve the issued invoice.
Therefore, in cases where goods are returned, the buyer must issue a VAT invoice to return to the seller.
2. Regarding VAT declaration:
– Seller (the party being returned): declare this in the purchase invoice.
– The buyer (payer): declares this in the sales invoice.
